N e who, let's get down to the "nitty-gritty" for today. I am a professed follower of Jesus Christ and lately I have been pondering on the word "repent". Recently, I got a whole "revelation" on it and that was: Have I truly repented? Do people truly "repent". My answer was, no. So now, I'm trying to figure out why exactly did my answer come to be "no". How is that I have been "saved" for about 12 yrs now and I still don't understand the concept of "repentance" and "salvation".
All my life I've heard this word "repent" nonchalantly flung around from pastors, family, friends, associates and the lovely "Turlington Preachers" of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, FL. (haha!) Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that I don't know what that concept means. I mean, I can tell you a dictionary definition, but can I or have actually TRULY done the action? Honestly speaking now, I don't know.
So here are some of the questions I have been asking:
- What is repentance?
- Is it true that once "saved" [i.e. accepted Jesus Christ as the son of the I Am (True and living GOD) and the being who paid the price of sin which was/is eternal damnation, death (spiritual), etc.] always saved?
- If you are indeed saved, does that give you the permission to live any kind of way you want i.e. to ignore the teachings of Jesus. (haha, when I put it like that, it doesn't sount to great) Does it make it OK to purposefully sin?
- If saved, are you still required to repent daily?
My old/current thinking is that yes, once you are saved you are always saved; however, that does NOT give you the permission to purposely sin. That's like spitting in Jesus's face in my eyes. And yes, even though you are saved, you are still required to repent daily. Again, it's out of respect for the death of Christ. I don't know why, but for a while my premise for this was found in Romans 12:1; however, looking back, when Paul (the author of Romans) wrote this letter to the Roman people, these were non-believers of Christ, sooo does that mean this verse applies to me, who is already a believer? Hmmm?? I don't know!!! lol! And this is precisely why I am going to do a study on this repentance thing. :o) I need REAL INFALIBLE BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR MY BELIEFS. At this point in my walk with Jesus Christ, I can no longer feed on milk, it is time for MEAT!
Hebrews 5: 12-14
"In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
So, as you can see now I am on a crazy wild goose hunt for the TRUE meaning of repentance; what it is, and how to do it. Pray that I get a new type of understanding! Yo, like I'm officially blogged out man..lol
Blessings! :o)
